This month we had the honour of being invited to take part in one of competitive surfing’s most prestigious events.
Following on from last year’s campaign, where Porthleven Drinking Club’s lucrative sponsorship deal with Calsberg Special Brew saw us necking an abundance of super strength lager for breakfast alone.
This year we got handed a polite warning from the local authorities ahead of the event, ask us not to bring quite so much booze again. So we figured it might be novel, or even slightly “rocknroll” to do the opposite this year, and try to do the whole event sober. To be honest we weren’t sure if we were going to make it, but somehow we persevered and managed to not drink until at least midday, by which time we’d actually achieved our other goal of getting knocked out first round, so it was only fair to celebrate accordingly.
Massive thanks to St Ives Surf School and Surfers Against Sewage for organising the event, and being kind/brave enough to let us take part again. Bloody good show!
